BODY DYSMORPHIA ALSO AFFECTS YOUNG MEN! Psychologist: Some people spend a lot of their waking hours thinking about their bodies, exercising, and eating or starving themselves.

“Men with body dysmorphia think that if they gain more muscle mass, they will have higher self-esteem. But this may not always be true,” discusses psychologist Mikhail Belyaev. Can constantly thinking about muscles, hair or penis size eventually become a disorder?

According to psychologist Mikhail Belyaev, body dysmorphia was first discussed in 1891, when Italian psychiatrist Enrico Morselli introduced body dysmorphophobia. “This means that a person develops obsessions with their body and does not feel that it is beautiful, but that it is ugly. A person has constant thoughts related to their body. They always want to change it, and when they change it, they are still not satisfied. They develop disgust with their body,” explains the psychologist.
